How do I choose the plants for my terrarium?

For a dry (desert-style) terrarium, we offer succulents such as the Echeveria or Haworthia, ideal for beginners. For a tropical terrarium, Davallia ferns or Fittonia with vibrant patterns will create a miniature jungle atmosphere. We also offer ready-to-plant kits with Pyrenean moss seeds for a touch of the wild.

What is the recommended maintenance?

You've just bought one of our terrariums but you're not sure how to care for it?  A terrarium is a miniature landscape combining mineral and plant elements, usually in a jar or glass container. Here are a few simple steps to care for it properly:Watering : Lightly mist 1 to 2 times a month for closed terrariums, and once a week for open models. Use rainwater or filtered water to avoid limescale.Size : Trim the leaves touching the walls to prevent rot. Use fine scissors or aquarium tweezers for small spaces.Nettoyage : Wipe the walls with a microfiber cloth and remove plant debris monthly.Not green-fingered? Where should I place my terrarium in the house?

Accepted Answer

Avoid direct light (risk of a magnifying-glass effect) and favor indirect light, such as near a north-facing window. Tropical terrariums like natural humidity (bathroom, kitchen), while desert ones thrive in a dry environment (living room, office).

Que faire en cas de condensation excessive ?

Open the lid for 2-3 hours to regulate the humidity. If the problem persists, reduce watering and check that the terrarium isn't too close to a heat source. Excess water may require adding activated charcoal to absorb the moisture.

No, limescale and chlorine disrupt the terrarium's balance. Favor rainwater or filtered water. In an emergency, let the water stand for 24h before use.

With proper care, your ecosystem can last 3 to 5 years. Succulents need less care, while tropical plants require annual repotting. We offer a free “refresh” service to replace tired plants.

Mealybugs or fungus gnats can be controlled with chemical-free sticky traps. As prevention, avoid overwatering and isolate new plants before bringing them in.
